There are many Amish communities surrounding Jamestown, NY which
inspired Merrill Coffins paintings. His love of the Amish way of
life is portrayed in the barns, children, and quilting scenes.
Robert W Plyer reviewed
one of Mr. Coffin's Amish painting with the following... "I
particularly enjoyed ... Amish brothers putting fish onto a stranger
beside a rocky creek. The point of view is from quite far way so the
brothers are seen very small, emphasizing their roles as part of a
great, beautiful, natural universe.
